The Seychelles, the name alone conjures up images of hidden treasure and tropical paradise. The myths still exist; are they just the jewel-like scattered remnants of a forgotten continent, or simply the original ‘Garden of Eden', and what arcane mysteries are locked inside of those 650 million year old rocks. Whatever, one thing is certain, you will never find such a unique paradise anywhere else on Earth.
 
  
 
 
The Seychelles is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, consisting of more than 100 islands of which 83 are named and 46 are permanently uninhabited. Mahé is the principal island comprising of 142 sq km, with the islands of Praslin, La Digue and Silhouette being the next important . Situated about 1,600 km off the east coast of Africa, Mahe extends 27 km north to south and 11 km east to west and has a coastline of 127 km. 
 
 
 

Population

As the islands of the Seychelles had no indigenous population, the current Seychellois are composed of immigrants, mostly of French, African, Indian, and Chinese descent. French and English are official languages along with a French-based Creole. Most Seychellois are Christians; the Roman Catholic Church is the predominant denomination.

The official languages in the Seychelles are Creole, English and French. Creole is often spoken amongst the locals, with English being the administrative language.
Climate
The Seychelles are located just south of the equator providing a tropical climate, meaning all year round high humidity levels and an average temperature between 25 and 30 oC.
The Seychelles are within the southern hemisphere offering a totally different night sky, which will amaze and fascinate any European visitors.

Visa
No-one needs a visa to enter the Seychelles but a passport, valid for at least 6 months is required by all. On arrival you will be granted a permit to stay for 30 days, this can be extended at the Immigration Office. You may need to show sufficient funds to support your stay and proof of pre-booked accommodation.

Natural patrimony
 
Seychelles is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites run by the Seychelles Islands Foundation. They are the island of Aldabra, which is the world's largest raised coral atoll and also the Vallée de Mai on Praslin island, billed as the original site of the Garden of Eden. The Cousin Island Special Reserve, purchased by Royal Society for Nature Conservation in 1968 and managed by Nature Seychelles, is an internationally-known bird and marine sanctuary which has won several awards for conservation and ecotourism. Seychelles has six national marine parks including the St. Anne National Marine Park located adjacent to the capital, Port Victoria which are managed by the government parastatal, Marine Parks Authority. Much of the land territory (about 40%) and a substantial part of the coastal sea around Seychelles are protected as National Parks, including Marine Parks, and Reserves.
